October Speaker

Janet Waggoner on Ohio Bicentennial Barns

A native Ohioan, Janet graduated from Lorain High School and Baldwin-Wallace College. She has taught in three Ohio school systems and now lives in Westerville.

Currently, Janet is a board member of the Worthington Area Art League, and she has served as president in the past. She is also a member of the Westerville Art League and the Central Ohio Watercolor Society.

As a freelance artist, Janet has been commissioned to paint historical buildings, businesses, florals, people, pets, even boats and cars. Her paintings of the Ohio Bicentennial Barns appeared on nineteen phonebook covers around the state. Her painting of the Ohio State Capital was featured on the 2003 holiday card for Governor Taft’s staff. Recent commissions include Velvet Ice Cream’s Ye Old Mill which appeared on their cards and packaging, the Burton Morgan Center at Denison University and the Granville Inn.

Some of Janet’s paintings can be seen online at KathysCareCards.com. Kathy's Care Cards were created by Kathy Boston, R.N., to fill the void between "Get Well" and "Sympathy" cards for victims and survivors of cancer and other terminal illnesses. Janet, along with other artists, donated original artwork for the cards. Please visit KathysCareCards.com to view artwork that expresses new messages of hope healing and love.

DAAL September Meeting Minutes

The last DAAL meeting took place on September 11th at 6:30PM at the Dublin Public Library, 32 present, including members and guests. Refreshments provided by Nancy St Clair and Carol Cosgrove.

Members were asked to check the roster and update their information. Rosters will be distributed to all members.

Please pay dues to Treasurer Rich Sharick. Annual dues $20. First time web fee $20, Renewal of website $5

Budget Discussion
A handout was provided to all members to review and discuss. It was agreed that fees for shows should be $15, not $20 to encourage more participants.

The calendar project was designed to raise money to pay for the storage locker. Since the Arts Council now pays for the locker, we need to use the money for another purpose, as we are non-profit. Ideas briefly discussed were workshops, scholarships, and an award at the State Fair Art Exhibit.

It was agreed that we continue membership in the Dublin Chamber of Commerce. Some of the benefits include advertisement in their flyers and various discounts for DAAL members.

Budget needed to be submitted the following day, Sept 12. A motion was made and seconded to approve the budget. Budget was voted upon and approved.

Samples of the new calendar were available to see. Cost is $12 for one calendar but $10 each for the purchase of 5 or more calendars. Members are encouraged to sell calendars.

Fall Show chairs: Pat Getha and Carol Cosgrove. We still need volunteers to set up the show Friday October 31st.

Spring Show Chairs: Ruth Ann Mitchell and Wayne Cullen agreed to co-chair the Spring Show.

Introduction of officers. President: Cindy Bryden, Vice-President: Aida Garrity, Treasurer and Membership Chair: Rich Sharick, Secretary: shared position Carol Cosgrove and Nancy St Clair, Hospitality: Carol Cosgrove, Coordinator of Dublin business art displays: Karen Jesko. Still needed; chair for Art Stroll and Paint Out.

Know of anyone who would be a great judge? We are trying to compile a list.
